Awesome video from Jack Bredenforder on Landor’s blog. Simplifying the world to 100 people is a concrete way to express numbers and statistics that tend to de-humanize.

The video is effective not only because of the concept, but also because of strong execution.

The quick fading of the black backgrounds give way to vibrant photos, while the fade-ins of the text and slow zooming of photos add a sense of movement. The mix of monochrome and color images varies the emotional impact of the video, so it’s not all heavy all the time, which can be overbearing for the viewer.

The music is haunting, cautiously optimistic, and yearning. The lack of a beat makes the viewer focus on the images and text. Another version on YouTube with edgier music and a beat almost allows the viewer to take the message more casually.

Well done.
