Got coke?

Does anyone else hear Coca-Cola commercials on the radio every 5 seconds? It started around Thanksgiving but has gotten more frequent. There’s an ad with background music saying “shake it up/ it’s Christmastime.” I thought, why would Coca-Cola tell people to “shake it up” when you’re not supposed to shake carbonated drinks?

So I decided to look into it and to my surprise, the song is by Train. Yes, the same Train that did “Drops of Jupiter.” They did “Shake Up Christmas” solely for Coca-Cola in conjunction with the brand’s holiday marketing campaign. I wonder what it feels like to be a sell-out. Kidding (kind of).

The music video is excruciatingly long. It’s 4 minutes of my life that I’ll never get back. However, Coca-Cola is good at storytelling and I wanted to see what happens to the hot guy with the extra concert ticket. Hint: it’s predictable. Also, as a fairly straight-arrow brand, I’m surprised that Coca-Cola would encourage hooligans to stampede into a concert, bypassing all respect for order.

Check out the video and let me know what you think.
