My Confusing Plate

After decades of the food pyramid, the US Department of Agriculture finally introduced a new diagram called MyPlate.

Really? This is the best they could come up with?

The diagonal slices on the plate look the same size. Why not have the pie slices at least meet in the center so people can estimate a rough percentage?

And then of course there is the circle of dairy that haphazardly hangs off of the main plate. Does this mean that my daily caloric intake adds up to 110% instead of 100%? And if the dairy circle were to be a slice like everything else, would it be smaller than the fruit and protein?

I’m all about diagrams that require minimal brainpower to process. This is not one of them.
