Setting your intentions for 2020
Happy New Year, friends!
I’m so thankful for a fantastic 2019 with all of you. Looking ahead to 2020, I want to share a few of my favorite questions for setting intentions for the new year.
Here are three simple questions:
1. What do you want to do more of?
2. What do you want to do less of?
3. What are you excited to experiment with and learn about?
It’s easy to get caught up in what’s happening day-to-day. These reflection questions remind you to look up once in a while to check if you’re going in the right direction.
Checking in with yourself matters because changes can happen gradually and don’t seem noticeable, but they add up over time. For example, the business needs X, so you jump in. A task needs to get done, so you do it. An exciting client comes your way, so you take on the engagement. These choices can feel like the only logical option in the moment.
We get pulled in one direction or another due to circumstances. It’s like a slight current in a river. You don’t feel it when you’re in it, but you are floating right or left because of the current.
By pausing to reflect, you become more aware of your surroundings—and therefore have the opportunity to change them. You get to decide where you want to go in the river!
